New News!
Your baby's length is about 16 inches—about as long as a laptop computer—and he measures almost 11 inches from crown to rump. He weighs approximately 2 1/2 to 3 pounds. From now until delivery, every baby will gain weight at a more individual rate. Your baby has doubled in height over the past six weeks, and from now until delivery, he'll gain only a few more inches in length. Don't worry if he's in a strange position (what your care provider might call a "transverse lie"). There's still plenty of time for him to get settled into the head-down (cephalic) position for birth. He's floating in about 1 1/2 pints of amniotic fluid and has some room to move. Your baby's most important organ, his brain, continues to develop at a rapid pace. His eyes are able to track light, and some researchers have theorized that exposing your belly to light may stimulate development. Try moving the beam of a flashlight slowly over your belly in a dim room, and see if he reacts
He’s also filling out a bit as he continues to gain weight, and these layers of fat help him to appear less wrinkled. As practice for breathing after birth, your baby mimics breathing movements by repeatedly moving his diaphragm in a rhythmic way. This can trigger hiccups if he inadvertently inhales amniotic fluid. A pint and a half of amniotic fluid now surrounds your baby, but that volume decreases as he gets bigger and has less room in your uterus.
Here's what else is happening this week:
Head. Your baby’s head continues to grow, and brain growth speeds up even more. Hearing. It’s improving; nearly all babies can react by movement to sound by this week.
As baby's skin smoothes out, his brain just keeps getting more wrinkled. All those grooves and indentations increase surface area, meaning more room for that oh-so-essential brain tissue. He's also adding some brawn -- his grip is now strong enough to grasp a finger
His eyesight continues to develop, though it's not very keen; even after he's born, he'll keep his eyes closed for a good part of the day. When he does open them, he'll respond to changes in light but will have 20/400 vision — which means he can only make out objects a few inches from his face. (Normal adult vision is 20/20.)
This weekend was rather busy, but I like moving around and not just sitting all day so it was fun! Friday I just hung out and had dinner with Alyssa because she was home from camp. We watched a movie and that was about all! Saturday we went garage saling and got some furniture for her apartment next year, went to the Italian Fest (it started to rain...) so we headed over to the Peacock's condo downtown and saw Courtney and Tom for a little bit! Which was nice seeing them since we havn't in a while! Sunday Dad and I just ran errands and then went to the Grandparents house and went on the boat for a little bit. We need to put the jet ski in the water soon if the weather would ever clear up! So that's about all that happened this weekend.
The baby is definitely getting bigger- I'm pretty sure I grew last week(noticably). He's still really active though and getting strong. It makes me giggle every time he kicks me really hard-it's such a neat feeling! I have a doctor's appointment this week-Friday- and will learn how much I've gained in two weeks and if we are on schedule or not. Although I think we are! Also, Mom will be here- FINALLY! I can't wait to see her! On Wed. of last week I had my first Child Birth Prep Class (@ Comm. North) and there were some interesting things that I learned. It was basically what I expected, but some new info regarding the actual birth. Now, I think I'm a little more scared of the delivery then I was before, but oh well. Hopefully here soon I will be adding baby pictures of Austin and Me- then once this little man arrives we can see who he looks like! Other than that, not much to report! Have a great week and thanks for reading!
