The last bits of vernix caseosa (the white goo keeping baby's skin moist) and lanugo (downy hair) are slowly shedding into your amniotic fluid. Baby's head is about the same circumference as his abdomen, and his head could be covered in an inch or so of hair.
Your baby has really plumped up. He weighs about 6.8 pounds and he's over 19 1/2 inches long (like a leek). He has a firm grasp, which you'll soon be able to test when you hold his hand for the first time! His organs have matured and are ready for life outside the womb. Wondering what color your baby's eyes will be? If he's born with brown eyes, they'll likely stay brown. If he's born with steel gray or dark blue eyes, they may stay gray or blue or turn green, hazel, or brown by the time he's 9 months old.
The average newborn has a length of 21 1/2 inches and weighs 7 1/2 pounds. He is fully developed, though still adding connections between neurons in the brain (this continues well after birth). His nails have been growing and now reach to the ends of his fingers and toes. His movements are quite restricted by his close quarters.
Sorry it has taken me so long to update my blog this week. I will post the picture tonight as well. I had an amazing, but crazy and tiring weekend! My mom and grandma were in town this weekend and they threw me a Family baby shower-with a lot of help from my sister as well! It was amazing and we had a wonderful time!! Thanks to everyone who came!
Also, on Monday I had a Dr. Appt. and nothing had changed at that point. He hadn't dropped, no dialation and no effacement! However, I think he's coming soon! I also think he may have dropped since then as well. I'm really getting excited for him to be here now! I would like it if he could stay in tehre until at least the 18th, but any day now will be fine :) Monday I also met with the Pediatrician, who was really awesome as well. I really liked her and we clicked! Her name is Beata Samuel and she is right above my OB/GYN at the Fishers location.
Well, I don't have much to report this week. Today is my last day of work, becauase I'm definitely feeling the affects of pregnancy now! They have been wonderful and I will miss them all greatly, but I will be by to see them-specially with the little man! Right now I'm just going to focus on getting ready for him to be here and getting some rest-since I won't be getting much of that once he comes! Well, thanks again for reading- on Saturday I'm 39 weeks= One week left until his Due date!!! I can't wait to see what his bday will be and what he looks and acts like!! YAY!! Can't wait to hold him either!
